Don't want it!

The cliche phrase..."The joys of parenthood..." did NOT come to mind at all yesterday other than in a sarcastic manner! There is no joy in having to deal with a sick toddler. And to add to it, Matt was sick as well. Sorry Matt, but men and sickness don't go together well either :-)

The phrase of the night for Brynn was, "Don't want it!" with an occassional "Unh-uh!" or " No!". She didn't want anything other than to fuss and cry and be a menace. Here is some of last's night conversation:
Me: Want your milk?
Brynn: Don't want it!
Me: Want your blankies?
Brynn: Don't want it!
Me: Want me to hold you?
Brynn: No.
Me: Want (several food items listed)?
Brynn: Don't want it (to all items).
Me: Want to color with Mommy?
Brynn: Unh-Uh.
Me: Want to watch Blues Clues?
Brynn: Unh-Uh.
Me: Please tell mommy what you want!
Brynn: Silence
Me: What DO you want, Brynn?
Brynn: Silence

Finally after an hour or so of similar dialogue back and forth she told us she wanted to watch her Signs movie. (She tells us by going to her DVD shelf and pulling out the movie she wants - she recognizes the pictures on the cover. I asked her if she wanted to watch her signs movie and she said, "YEAH, signs!".) Yay, something she wanted! Faster than lighting I pop in the Baby Einsteins, My First Signs DVD and there was 20 minutes of peace. Ahhhh.

The only sweet moment I remember of the night was after I has sucked out her snotty nose with the bulb she responded by saying, "All better". This made me feel better that my obsessive compulsiveness on sucking out the snot and freeing of her of it actually did make her feel better...temporarily that was until the next snot brigade showed up 5 minutes later.

And for a repeat of last night? "DON"T WANT IT!"

You can look on the bright side... at least it wasn't Matt's nose you had to use the "booger sucker" on!

Sorry Brynn is sick (and Matt too). Never fun. Never easy. Always exhausting. Healthy days will be here soon:)

I don't know what's worse - Brynn being able to at least tell you what she doesn't want or having a baby that can't tell you anything and just cries! I think neither is a great option :) Hope she's feeling better.
